Spending up in any daily fantasy lineup is how to get the superstars and the highest upside players in your lineup.
In NHL DFS, it’s different from spending up in sports like NBA or NFL. Someone can be one of the highest salaried players at his position and put up a total dud of a performance, and paying that much for him would be a huge mistake. Let’s make sure we are spending salary in the right spots when building our lineups tonight.
Wednesday night now has four games on the schedule. Here are some studs.
Connor McDavid, Center, Edmonton Oilers
FanDuel Salary: $9,900
The decision here was not easy, but Edmonton at home against Dallas is a solid matchup -- especially with a fired up Connor McDavid.
McDavid has been a bit up and down lately production-wise, and Dallas comes off allowing six goals on the road against Vancouver Canucks on Monday night. The Stars are a vastly different team on the road. Edmonton, meanwhile, is 14-3-2 over their last 19 games.
Though McDavid has not scored a goal in four straight games, he had scored in six consecutive contests before that. He has 16 shots on goal, 21 scoring chances, and 2 assists during this "goal drought".
Utilizing stacking options with McDavid like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins or even a value choice like Cody Ceci is a great way to diversify when rostering him on Wednesday night.
Alex Ovechkin, Wing, Washington Capitals
FanDuel Salary: $9,600
The ageless wonder, Alex Ovechkin, is just two goals away from the 50-goal mark.
His Washington Capitals team now has 24 road wins coming off a victory in Colorado, and Ovechkin has a goal in six of his last seven games.
The opposing Vegas Golden Knights may have hit rock-bottom after a 3-2 loss at home to the New Jersey Devils on Monday. Facing Ovechkin and a red-hot Washington team is not exactly what the doctor ordered.
The Golden Knights have allowed 19 goals in their last six contests, so there should be some room for some goals from the Capitals winger and his linemates on Wednesday.
John Carlson, Defenseman, Washington Capitals
FanDuel Salary: $6,900
The Washington defenseman has turned it on in a huge way since the end of January, and that has morphed into something even greater in April.
John Carlson has four goals and nine assists in his previous seven games alone. Carlson has 18 shots, 23 scoring chances, and 11 blocked shots during this span.
Cale Makar is an option here, but Carlson has been the hotter commodity this month. His floor may not be on the level of Makar's, but the Capitals are just playing on a different level at present.
Since Jack Eichel joined the lineup, Vegas is a game below .500. That does not bode so well and could be a sign they're presing.
With the slate a bit top-heavy, Carlson may not go under the radar here for once -- but the "fear of missing out" is real.
