In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside -- if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists, as well.
Ideally, we want players who will get a lot of ice time together on an even-strength line and a power-play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
Four games this Friday, with some good offenses in good spots.
Washington Capitals
The Washington Capitals have been slightly disrespected of late. People have talked about them being the easiest matchup in the East. While they are the eighth seed at the moment, they still are a good team, and the Caps get a matchup against the worst team in the league tonight.
Washington has been led by three players on offense. The obvious one is Alex Ovechkin ($9,200), who reached the 50-goal mark for the ninth time in his career on Wednesday. Evgeny Kuznetsov ($6,700) is having a bounce-back season, averaging more than a point per game. John Carlson ($6,500) on defense has been on fire, with 13 points in his last 10 games. The even-strength right-winger at the moment is Tom Wilson ($5,300), who can be included in this stack. T.J. Oshie ($4,900) could be another play as he will contribute on the power play.
The Capitals will play the Arizona Coyotes. The Coyotes lost again on Wednesday and allowed another four goals. That was their eighth-straight defeat, and they've allowed at least four goals in each game.
Washington is in a great spot tonight in this soft matchup. They have an implied team total of 4.25 goals, which is the highest on the slate. A four-man stack won't break the bank too badly, either, making them clearly the best stack of the slate.
Minnesota Wild
The Minnesota Wild played great last night, winning 6-3. They demonstrated what makes them so enticing to stack in fantasy, as a few of their players really went off. Tonight, they'll have the chance to do the same in an even softer matchup.
Minnesota's top line was really clicking last night. Kirill Kaprizov ($9,000) and Mats Zuccarello ($7,700) each had three points. Ryan Hartman ($6,200) also chipped in with a goal and an assist. Hartman has lost his role on the first power play but clearly still correlates well with the two wingers. Only the Calgary Flames' first line has scored more goals than this line at five-on-five.
When discussing the Wild and their recent play, we need to talk about Kevin Fiala ($7,600). He has been absolutely torrid with his goal-scoring lately, netting eight goals in his last six games. He is playing with rookie Matthew Boldy ($6,100), who has points in each of his last nine games. Boldy will correlate with center Frederick Gaudreau ($5,400) at even strength and on the second power play. Gaudreau has been a surprise of late, totaling 10 points in his last 10 games.
The Wild will face the Seattle Kraken at home. Seattle continues to keep playing out the string of their first season and can't match up here with their lack of talent after they made moves at the trade deadline. They've allowed the ninth-most goals per game this season.
Minnesota stacks have great upside on most slates, and tonight is no different. Their implied team total comes in just under four goals, and they can easily be slate-breakers on Friday.
Ottawa Senators
The Ottawa Senators are looking to close out their season strongly -- like they did last season. They've gone 5-4-1 in their last 10 games and have gotten some promising performances from a few players. Tonight, they definitely should be able to keep that up.
The Senators have gone back to a top line that was pretty successful at the start of the season before injuries got in the way. Josh Norris ($7,000) has scored 33 goals in just 61 games played. Brady Tkachuk ($6,900) leads the team with 60 points, including 13 in his last 10 games. Drake Batherson ($6,900) was on his way to a big season before an ankle injury derailed that. He still leads the team in points per game (0.98). This trio will play together on Ottawa's top power play, as well.
Ottawa will be on the road against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Jackets were better than most were expecting this season but seem to have run out of steam. They have lost their last three games and will be without top defenseman Zach Werenski. That doesn't bode well for a team that already allows the fourth-most goals per game and the second-most shots on goal per game.
Ottawa offers full correlation on a stack that might go a little overlooked. If you are trying to go off the board a bit in tournaments, we need upside, and the Senators' first line definitely provides that.
