FanDuel Price: $7,400
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
With top options Johnny Cueto, Zack Greinke, Cole Hamels, and Gerrit Cole all in good matchups on paper, it seems very unlikely that Tom Koehler will be highly owned tonight.
Why You Should Use Him:
Koehler has really pitched well over the past month. In five starts over that span, he has accumulated a 3-0 record, a 1.36 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and a 40.8 FanDuel points per game average.
Tonight he will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates, who rank 20th in wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. Their 21.1 percent strikeout rate against righties is just the 14th-highest mark, but Koehler gets his value from pitching deep into games and holding his opponents to low run totals, rather than piling up strikeouts.
While Koehler certainly doesn't have the upside of the elite pitchers mentioned earlier, you don't need a huge game from him at his price tag. If you can get another 40-plus FanDuel point performance from him (three out of his past five games have been 40-plus), and a couple of the more highly owned pitchers have an off day, you'll be in very good shape. His price tag also makes it much easier to fit in players from the Coors game.
