Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Even ignoring the options in Coors, the Nationals outfielders of Bryce Harper -- who seems to be finally waking up and/or getting healthy -- and Trea Turner are sure to be heavily owned against the Braves Ryan Weber. Add in the Rockies and Giants bats, and Ian Desmond is sure to be ignored.
Why You Should Use Him:
Felix Hernandez is starting to show major signs of regression in 2016, sporting a career-low strikeout rate of 20.3% and the highest walk rate of his career at 10.1%. Combine both of those factors plus the second-highest home run per nine innings rate of his career (1.04 per 9), and it all adds up to a career-worst 4.42 SIERA.
Righties are the main culprits for damage against King Felix. In fact, his home runs per nine innings more than doubles (0.64 to 1.38), and both the fly-ball rate and hard-hit rate jump up by 3%.
Desmond, meanwhile, has cooled considerably in the second half, as his OPS has sunk 270 points. But the last 10 games have shown signs of a resurgence, as he's logged 9 fantasy points or more 8 times.
King Felix is the big name a lot of players will avoid, but Desmond has a ton of value amongst all of the big names.
