Ranking Roberto Clemente's 5 Best MLB Seasons
Was his 1966 NL MVP campaign really his greatest?

5. 1971

At the age of 36, Clemente played the 17th season of a long and successful career. He racked up 13 home runs and 86 RBI while hitting .341 and getting on base at a rate of .370.

In terms of the more advanced numbers, Clemente hit for a weighted on-base average (wOBA) of .388 and posted a 148 weighted runs created plus (wRC+). This amounted to a WAR of 6.5 for the season.

This same season, Clemente was voted an All-Star and awarded his 11th of 12 career Gold Gloves. He would also go on to be named the World Series MVP in the Pirates' second championship season during Clemente's time in Pittsburgh.

Unfortunately, Clemente was tragically killed in a plane crash the very next year while attempting to aid earthquake victims in Nicaragua.
