Three years prior, the right fielder displayed more power, with 18 home runs in 132 games. However, he had just 57 RBI on a .291 batting average. Even Clemente's wOBA and WRC+ were lower than they were in his '71 season.
What made this season so great was the Puerto Rican's outstanding defensive play. He committed just six total errors in 1,159.2 innings in the field along with nine assists. His defensive runs above average (DEF) totaled 16.8 -- the highest since 1958 and his best over the last 14 years of his career.
For his great defense and above-average offense, Clemente earned a 6.7 WAR and another Gold Glove.
