Why He Will Go Overlooked:
If paying up for an expensive ace is your thing, this is the slate to play. Clayton Kershaw, Madison Bumgarner, and Zack Greinke all take the hill and are sure to see high ownership rates.
Jhoulys Chacin is three starts into 2017, and it has been a mixed bag through the first three starts. He was brilliant against the San Francisco Giants, but was mediocre against the Atlanta Braves and was really bad on opening day against the Los Angeles Dodgers. As the third-cheapest starter on the main slate facing an Arizona Diamondbacks offense that ranks second against right-handed pitching thus far (.351 wOBA), he's likely to go overlooked.
Why You Should Use Him:
While the Diamondbacks are certainly a tough matchup, there's some silver lining -- they're striking out 25.7% of the time against right-handers in 2017, which is the third-highest percentage in baseball.
Chacin also gets the added benefit of park factor -- over the last three seasons, Petco Park ranks 24th, which gives Chacin's matchup some juice. And despite their reputation on offense, the Diamondbacks presently sport an implied team total of 3.86 runs, which is on the lower end of the spectrum Wednesday.
There's obviously a lot of risk in using a hurler like Chacin, but he could also pop off a big number at really low ownership.
