The Houston Astros are a team to target today, drawing one of the best pitching matchups against Andrew Cashner and the Texas Rangers.
Cashner was all sorts of awful in 2016, posting a 4.72 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) and 10.2% walk rate while allowing a 35.8% hard-hit rate. This season? His SIERA sits at a horrendous 6.97 through three starts, his walk rate is pushing 20.0%, his swinging strike rate is just 6.6% and he has allowed a 34.8% hard-hit rate.
He was especially bad against left-handed hitters last year, allowing a huge .380 wOBA. That makes this spot especially appealing for Josh Reddick.
Reddick has been batting second for the Astros recently, and while he's no killer at the dish, he does have a decent 30.8% hard-hit rate and 0.89 ground-ball-fly-ball ratio against right-handed pitching to start the season. He shouldn't have too much trouble taking advantage of this terrific matchup.
