Max Scherzer has been his usual dominant self this season with a 2.93 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) and a 32.3% strikeout rate, putting him on pace for his third straight season with a mark above 30.0%. His 15.4% swinging strike rate is also on pace to be a career high (sitting a shade ahead of his 15.3% from each of the last two seasons), and he's allowing identical 20.2% soft-hit and hard-hit rates.
His matchup isn't ideal in taking on a Baltimore Orioles squad that ranks about average in wRC+ and has a below-average strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. However, Scherzer has been outstanding and it would take more than a slightly below-average matchup to take him out of consideration as the top pitcher on the slate.
He is also our top-projected pitcher in action on Tuesday.
