Brandon Moss isn't the most consistent hitter out there, but he has no shortage of pop in his bat, especially against right-handed pitching.
Moss has a .233 isolated slugging (ISO) to open the season (after posting a .259 in 2016), while also boasting solid batted-ball numbers, with a 35.8% hard-hit rate, 14.8% soft-hit rate and 44.4% fly-ball rate. The Baseball Gods haven't smiled upon him in his at-bats against righties this year, as he's only managed a .169 batting average on balls in play (BABIP) compared to a .278 career-average. But with a 39.3% hard-hit rate and 54.6% fly-ball rate against righties over the past two seasons, there's not a ton of reason to be concerned about his production.
His matchup today is also a good one, as he takes on Houston Astros righty Mike Fiers, who sports a 4.46 SIERA in 2017.
Despite his bargain-bin price tag, numberFire's models give Moss the third-highest home run projection among today's hitters.
