FanDuel Price: $7,700
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
It's ace day! There a ton of high-priced hurlers to choose from. Max Scherzer, Jake Arrieta, Justin Verlander, Luis Severino and Carlos Martinez all man the bump tonight, and they should see the lion's share of run at the position.
A mid-range option who could be pretty sneaky is rookie Sean Newcomb of the Atlanta Braves, but he may get overlooked due to his lack of experience (only 18 1/3 innings pitched at the major league level).
Why You Should Use Him:
It may be a bit scary to hype a player with three major league starts to his name, but don't be scared off by Newcomb as he's in a great spot tonight.
He'll face the San Diego Padres at Petco Park, and those Padres are absolutely dreadful against left-handed pitching. This year, they rank dead last in team wOBA (.277) off southpaws while striking out 24.9% of the time.
While Newcomb hasn't flashed a ton of strikeout goodness in his first three starts (17.8% strikeout rate), he's posted a very respectable 10.1% swinging-strike rate over those first few outings. He also posted a 29.7% strikeout rate in 58 2/3 frames this season in Triple-A.
Keep an eye on Newcomb as a nice salary-saving, contrarian option at the starting pitcher slot.
