Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Taking on rookie Nick Pivetta of the Philadelphia Phillies tonight at home, Ryan Braun could be a popular play. In the month of July, Braun ranks fourth in hard-hit rate at 57.1%, and he's posted a .921 OPS at home for his career.
Over that same July time frame, Braun's opponents haven't been quite as strong, ranking 19th in team wOBA (.309) while striking out 24.2% of the time. Fellow Phillies rookie Nick Williams, who was just recently called up, isn't likely to be as popular.
Why You Should Use Him:
Williams only has 35 plate appearances under his belt at the bigs in 2017, so it's difficult to draw many conclusions. But his Triple-A numbers were indeed impressive: In 306 Lehigh Valley plate appearances, Williams rocked a .366 wOBA, including 15 jacks and five steals.
Tonight, he'll look to build his major league resume against Zach Davies, who's pitched well as of late (3.90 July FIP) but has gotten burned by lefties. He's allowed a .364 wOBA to them in 2017, including a 31.4% hard-hit rate and a 34.0% fly-ball rate.
With Miller Park checking in at 9th for lefties in Park Factor by Handedness in 2017, Williams makes for a great upside play.
