You've really got to do some mental gymnastics to find a reason to roster Brandon Belt tonight against Jameson Taillon.
Let's start with Taillon, who has been a reverse-splits pitcher this season. While the sample size isn't huge, Taillon is limiting lefties to a .315 wOBA, 22.2% hard-hit rate and 21.6% fly-ball rate in 2017. He's also been getting whiffs lately, amassing a single-game swinging-strike rate of more than 11.0% in three of his last five starts.
The situation doesn't offer many positives, either. The San Francisco Giants have a 3.63 implied total, the slate's second-lowest mark, and AT&T Park sits 23rd in park factor and last in home run factor over the past three years.
Our projections have Belt as the 32nd-ranked first baseman out of 34 possible options tonight.
