Daily Fantasy Baseball: Positive Batted-Ball Regression Candidates for Week 3
Andrew McCutchen is off to a slow start, but his batted-ball profile hints at better days ahead. Which other hitters are on the verge of breaking through?

Andrew McCutchen, OF, San Francisco Giants

Andrew McCutchen's star has waned considerably over the past few seasons, and his move to the San Francisco Giants and their power-hostile AT&T Park has made the former superstar all but persona non grata in fantasy circles.

Those eager to write off McCutchen heading into 2018 have seen their bias confirmed, at least as far as surface stats are concerned, with the aging slugger gasping his way to a .203 batting average and unimpressive .339 slugging mark to open the season. But the underlying metrics don't exactly tell the tale of a player in decline, with 'Cutch stroking a 40.9% hard-hit rate while minimizing his soft-contact rate to just 9.1%. Add to that a 27.3% line-drive rate and an astounding 61.4% pull rate, and we seem to have the makings not of a fall from grace but a late-career renaissance.

With his career .247 isolated power against southpaws, McCutchen makes for a solid contrarian play against tough but mortal Arizona Diamondbacks lefties Robbie Ray and Patrick Corbin, especially if his price continues to hover near $3,000.
