Price: $2,200
Since the start of the 2017 season, 450 hitters have at least 50 batted balls against right-handed pitching. Only three of them have a higher average exit velocity than Alex Avila.
Over his 414 plate appearances against righties in that time, Avila has turned in an absurd 47.9% hard-hit rate and 6.7% soft-hit rate. His .349 wOBA and .175 ISO aren't nearly as staggering as his contact numbers, but they are still more than solid marks for a guy at this price.
San Diego Padres righty Tyson Ross is off to a good start to the season, but taking back to 2017 (expanding our sample size to 15 games), left-handed hitters have tagged him for a .363 wOBA and 5.38 xFIP on a 33.0% hard-hit rate.
Avila is priced only $200 above the minimum tonight, and the way he hits the ball gives him the kind of upside that is rare to find in this price range.
