A much more budget-friendly stud, Nelson Cruz draws a great matchup of his own.
Chicago White Sox right-hander Miguel Gonzalez struggled to the tune of a of a 5.39 SIERA in 2017, which is the worst mark among all the starting pitchers in action tonight. The beginning of the 2018 season hasn't been any better as he owns a 6.01 SIERA through three starts, with at least 4 earned runs allowed in 5 or fewer innings in each of those games.
Cruz is off to a terrific start this year, turning in a .393 wOBA and massive .349 ISO through 45 plate appearances. That's a small sample, but coming off three straight seasons with at least a .383 wOBA and .260 ISO, it's no surprise that he's continuing to show a ton of pop.
Cruz doesn't struggle at all with righty-righty matchups, either. In 2017, he tagged righties for a 40.2% hard-hit rate, 13.5% soft-hit rate and 41.7% fly-ball rate -- which he translated to a .395 wOBA and .280 ISO.
