Brandon Belt is enjoying a strong start to his 2018 campaign, slugging an impressive .550 and posting a wOBA above .400 through 52 games.
However, Belt will be playing at home this Friday night, and while that is a good thing for most hitters, it isn't so much the case when you play in AT&T Park. The home of the San Francisco Giants has been the best stadium in baseball in reducing home runs hit by left-handed batters. Belt himself has not been immune to this park factor, as his career-high for homers hit there sits at just eight.
The lefty bat will also be squaring off against Nick Pivetta this Friday. Pivetta has been nasty this year, posting a 3.15 SIERA. And even as a righty, Pivetta has been tremendous against left-handed hitters in his career, holding them to a .304 wOBA, including a 28.8% hard-hit rate. That makes it even harder to justify Belt for tonight's home matchup.
