These are Trevor Bauer's ERAs over the five seasons he has been a regular part of the Cleveland Indians' rotation: 4.18, 4.55, 4.26, 4.19, 2.62.
One of these numbers is not like the other.
There's no doubt Bauer has had a terrific season this year, with a FIP of 2.47 and an xFIP of 3.15. He's striking out a career-high 11.41 batters per nine innings with a strikeout rate of 30.3%, posting about the same walk rate (8.1%) he had last year. He's also cut his homers-per-nine rate in half from last year (1.28 to 0.52).
But will it continue? Bauer's erratic track record is that of a pitcher who can get hot but can lose it for extended stretches of time. Now feels like a good time to cash in on Bauer's career year.
