As the Texas Rangers struggle through a tough 2018 season, one of the players they are reportedly looking to trade within the next month or so is their current closer, Keone Kela.
Kela has been pretty darn good for Texas, piling up 18 saves in 29 games with a 3.67 ERA and a FIP of 2.85. He's striking out 30.0% of hitters and walking 10.0%, that latter number a little higher than you'd like. Opponents are hitting just .192 against him this season, exactly the type of numbers you want to see out of a late-inning reliever.
If Kela is dealt to a contender, he could become the ninth-inning guy for a team like the Philadelphia Phillies, piling up more saves than he otherwise would with Texas. You could get burned if he goes to a team with an established closer, but the upside is there. Now might be a good time to put in an offer.
