It seems like lifetimes ago when the Philadelphia Phillies made an offseason splash by signing touted prospect Scott Kingery to a six-year deal before the infielder had even taken a big-league at-bat. That memory seems so distant because the subsequent at bats haven't gone so well for Kingery, who has struggled to a .234/.284/.348 triple slash in his first 278 MLB plate appearances.
Kingery's June numbers show some promise of a breakthrough, though. No, that .676 OPS on the month is nothing to write home about, but the rookie has flashed a league-leading 37.1% liner rate in 101 June plate appearances. He'll have to cut down on that over-eager 39.6% reach rate to make a dent in his batting-average woes, but with the Phillies scheduled to face some suspect pitching as they host the Orioles and Pirates, Kingery and his mid-$2,000 salary could provide a profitable dart throw for FanDuel players in Week 14.
