Robinson Chirinos isn't the most consistent hitter, with a strikeout rate pushing 40% this season, but he still offers tons of fantasy upside, especially when he's against a southpaw like he is tonight versus Matt Boyd and the Detroit Tigers.
Chirinos has made only 56 plate appearances against southpaws this season, but in that sample, he has a huge 46.4% hard-hit rate and 46.4% fly-ball rate. Expanding our view to include 2017 (138 plate appearances), he has turned a 42.0% hard-hit rate, 11.1% soft-hit rate and 45.7% fly-ball rate into a huge .409 wOBA and .274 isolated slugging (ISO).
Boyd has opened 2018 with a 4.64 SIERA over 16 starts, which isn't a huge improvement from the career-worst 4.94 SIERA he put up in 2017. He has an especially ugly 5.23 xFIP against right-handed bats, giving Chirinos plenty of upside.
