Another leadoff hitter, we project Cesar Hernandez to bat leadoff for the Phillies as they take on the Cincinnati Reds and right-hander Anthony DeSclafani tonight.
Desclafani has only made nine starts this season, but he has a shaky 4.39 SIERA, which puts him on pace for a third straight season above 4.00. He's giving up a massive 48.6% hard-hit rate with only a 12.2% soft-hit rate, and he has an especially ugly 5.14 xFIP against left-handed bats.
The switch-hitting Hernandez has done his best work against right-handed pitching over the last two seasons, with a solid .341 wOBA. He also adds some baserunning upside, with 14 steals in 102 games in 2018, putting him 1 away from matching his total of 15 a year ago.
His .341 wOBA alone is enough to make him a viable option in this matchup, but batting leadoff and bringing along base stealing upside make him an especially strong play here.
