When excluding matchup, Jose Ramirez is clearly one of the top available batters on the board tonight, enjoying a fantastic 2018 campaign with some truly absurd numbers across the board. Against righties, he's showing a 39.9% hard-hit rate, 46.7% fly-ball rate, .381 ISO, and .427 expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA). That's been good for a massive 193 wRC+ in the platoon split, and all that isn't even getting into the career-high 27 stolen bases he has added, as well.
Needless to say, he has immense upside on any given night, so we shouldn't let a matchup against Rick Porcello scare us away from using him in tournaments. Porcello is having a solid year, producing a 3.70 SIERA, 23.6% strikeout rate, and 5.7% walk rate, but those are hardly impenetrable marks, and sure enough, Porcello has gotten lit up twice in his last six starts. He's also allowing a 41.0% hard-hit rate and 41.3% fly-ball rate to left-handed bats, which Ramirez could be poised to take advantage of.
Of course, we're still dealing with a fine pitcher on the mound, and Porcello could very well put together a gem. But with plenty of value bats to go around tonight, it will be easy to fit Ramirez into your lineup, and we have a nice opportunity to get an elite bat at lower ownership.
