Felix Hernandez is back in the rotation after spending a hot second in the Seattle Mariners' bullpen, but it's only out of necessity to replace the injured James Paxton. Hernandez's days as a member of pitching royalty appear further and further in the rear-view mirror, with a dismal 4.69 SIERA, 17.5% strikeout rate, and 39.5% hard-hit rate allowed this season.
But with higher implied team totals for teams like the Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland Athletics, and Minnesota Twins, the Houston Astros may trail in ownership in spite of the appealing matchup. Evan Gattis, in particular, should get less attention as a bat in the bottom half of the order, but we know the kind of power upside he brings. Gattis is producing a 39.5% hard-hit rate and 47.5% fly-ball rate against righties, helping him to a solid .226 ISO.
While there are better overall hitting spots on the board, with the Astros getting healthy, they could very well be one of the top scoring offenses on the night.
