It's not a lock that Chris Taylor is in the lineup tonight, but he has started two of the Los Angeles Dodgers' last three matchups against left-handed pitchers, and they're up against a southpaw again tonight in the Mets' Jason Vargas.
Taylor's numbers are down this year, and that is particularly true of his production against lefties. He's suffering from a .250 batting average on balls in play (BABIP), though, compared to a .326 career BABIP in the split. And that difference comes despite the fact that he's making phenomenal contact, with a 39.3% hard-hit rate, 6.8% soft-hit rate and 43.1% fly-ball rate (all better than his career averages).
That means there's no reason to be too worried about his production, and with Vargas sporting a 4.52 SIERA while allowing a 35.1% hard-hit rate and 39.4% fly-ball rate to right-handed bats, Taylor has big upside here.
