Rocking a .404 wOBA to start 2019, David Peralta will look to continue his superb form at the dish. Unfortunately, a same-sided matchup looms with lefty Matt Strahm on the hill tonight, and that could be bad for Peralta.
A season ago, Peralta struggled mightily in this situation, posting a .302 wOBA, 25.1% strikeout rate, and 28.6% fly-ball rate versus lefties. Throw in Peralta's .311 wOBA and .104 ISO in 2017 in this split, and it's definitely a trend of which we have to take notice.
Working back and forth as a starter and reliever, Strahm struck out 26.3% of lefties a year ago. So while Peralta has been great to begin the year, it may be worth taking a night off from the slugger.
