Price: $500
The Oakland Athletics are starting a right-hander in Frankie Montas tonight, and that means Chris Davis will likely be back in the starting lineup. He sat yesterday, but that probably had more to do with the matchup against a southpaw than with the fact that his production has been heinous.
Of course, his production has been about as bad as can be -- with 0 hits and 15 strikeouts through 32 plate appearances. Producing terribly may warrant a price tag at the usual minimum salary of $2,000, but getting him for $1,500 less than anyone else on the slate is still worth looking at here.
He's not totally without potential tonight, as his 13 batted-balls so far in 2019 have included 5 fly-balls and 4 liners, with none being soft-hit and 6 being hard-hit.
Even in an ugly 2018 campaign, he showed that he can still make good contact, with a 36.2% hard-hit rate, 13.1% soft-hit rate and 39.3% fly-ball rate, so while this year's numbers are over a small sample, they're not total aberrations.
Frankie Montas doesn't make for a soft matchup, as he's off to a good start to the year, but Davis is still capable of swinging with some power, so consider rostering him with the platoon advantage at $500 tonight.
