We're not going to pass up on many opportunities to pick on Andrew Cashner.
The Baltimore Orioles' righty has a 4.18 ERA over six starts this season, and while that might make it look like he's showing some improvement, it comes with a 5.25 SIERA. That's right in line with his egregious marks of 5.52 and 5.33 from the last two seasons, and his 14.7% strikeout rate and 9.6% walk rate are on par with last year's 14.5% and 9.5%. If there was any saving grace for him over those last couple seasons, it was that he wasn't giving up a ton of hard contact. This year, his hard-hit rate has spiked to 44.7% with only an 11.7% soft-hit rate, so we can forget that caveat now.
Yonder Alonso has had plenty of success against right-handed pitching over the last couple years, and dating back to the start of the 2017 season, he owns a .348 wOBA and .205 ISO on a 37.6% hard-hit rate and 41.0% fly-ball rate in the split.
The White Sox are another high implied total team (4.86 runs), and Alonso offers all kinds of upside against Cashner tonight.
