Price: $2,100
With most of today's value options being on the expensive end, we go just $100 above the minimum salary to look at Jordan Luplow for some serious salary relief.
Luplow has only made 214 Major League plate appearances in his first three seasons, and he's only managed a .284 wOBA and .163 ISO in that sample. His .235 BABIP suggests he's been getting a little unlucky though, even with the poor contact he's made (24.6% hard-hit rate).
He showed some promise from the dish at the Triple-A level last year, with a .376 wOBA over 357 plate appearances, and his 44 games in 2017 saw him notch a .404 wOBA. Don't expect him to become a stud hitter suddenly at the big-league level, but those numbers do indicate that -- once his BABIP regresses -- we can expect him to have the potential to produce at a serviceable level.
Seattle Mariners lefty Yusei Kikuchi has only managed a 4.46 SIERA over seven starts to open his Major League career, and getting the platoon advantage in this spot positions Luplow's production to take a step forward. And at a near-minimum salary, that's all we really need out of him to return value.
