Breaking News: The Phillies are bad. Vance Worley gets to take on the offensively-challenged Phillies on getaway day this Thursday. Philadelphia has scored the fewest runs and has the worst OPS at home this season and is bottom five in hits, home runs, and batting average. To encapsulate their inept offense, they are below the MLB average in every major hitting category at home. The Phillies also have a pitcher-friendly 1.11 groundball-to-flyball ratio.
Worley has had a little trouble on the road this season, but if you take away his poor showing at Milwaukee, the numbers aren’t bad. His last road start at St. Louis was easily his best as he gave up one run on four hits over six innings. If Worley keeps balls in play on the ground, he should be in line for a win. His two wins in 2015 have come when the opponent records more groundball outs than fly ball outs.
