Wei-Yin Chen has yet to allow more than three earned runs in any of his seven starts this season and has gone at least six innings in five of them. It's tough to ask for a better start from a pitcher. After an ineffective first outing, Chen has taken his 6.23 earned run average (ERA) and lowered it to a savory 2.53.
The Seattle Mariners make the trip out east as one of the worst road offenses. The Mariners have a bottom-five hitting team in 16 road starts, batting .223 and walking a meager 39 times. Chen is allowing opponents to hit .181 at home this season and has allowed four walks over 21.1 innings pitched. Seattle has yet to play a game farther east than Houston, a team in their division. Will the long trip make a bad offense even worse? The easy bet is yes -- for at least Chen and the next pitcher.
