Showing flashes of ace stuff throughout his career, Kevin Gausman is always an intriguing play who is rarely among the high-priced pitchers. He still hasn’t put it all together, but he’s making strides this year, posting a career-best 5.7% walk rate while maintaining a decent strikeout rate (19.7%). Gausman toes the rubber against the Los Angeles Angels today in a road start at Angel Stadium, a pitcher’s park which ranks 25th in ESPN’s Park Factors. Thank goodness for Mike Trout, otherwise the Halos’ offense may give the Atlanta Braves a run for their money as the game’s worst lineup. Even with Trout, the Angels rank 28th in homers (36) and 22nd in wOBA (.307). Gausman is our seventh-ranked pitcher for the day despite being just the 14th-most expensive arm.
