FanDuel Price: $2,000
It's not often that you get more than one min-price hitter who could be batting second in a great matchup, but that's what we get tonight between Mahtook and Phil Gosselin. It doesn't hurt that both hold their own individually, as well.
Gosselin only has a .110 isolated slugging percentage fr his career, which is well below the mark we usually want in a guy as a DFS option. However, when we narrow the scope to just left-handed pitchers, we'll see that Gosselin has a career 34.6% hard-hit rate over 113 plate appearances. His 26.9% fly-ball rate lowers his upside, but for his price and potential spot in the batting order, we can tolerate that.
Gosselin and the Diamondbacks have a tremendous matchup tonight against the Pittsburgh Pirates' Jeff Locke. Locke's 15.5% strikeout rate and 11.5% walk rate are highly conducive to base runners, and that's exactly what we want for a cheap guy hitting second. Gosselin certainly isn't the most exciting option, but it's hard to ignore his relative talent and situation combo for such a low price.
