We hyped up Carlos Carrasco this offseason -- and for good reason. The flamethrower was one of the most underrated pitchers in the league despite finishing 2015 with a 2.74 SIERA, 29.6% strikeout rate and 5.9% walk rate. Carrasco has thrown just 22 innings this season, going on the shelf with a hamstring injury, but he’s going to be activated and take the mound tonight for a home matchup against the Kansas City Royals.
Carrasco is our top-ranked pitcher for the main slate with a projected point total of 34.02 points. We project him to permit 2.25 earned runs on 5.95 hits while punching out 5.46 hitters over 6.41 innings of work.
Kansas City has a fairly league average offense, ranking 13th in wOBA (.317), but the Royals have been substantially worse on the road. Away from home, the defending champs rank 27th in runs scored and 23rd in total bases.
