Probable Starts:
Wednesday 6/22 at the Houston Astros
The fact Matt Shoemaker still qualifies for this article is pretty ridiculous. The dude leads the league in strikeouts over the past 30 days and is fourth in SIERA during that span. In his last six starts, he has a 1.83 ERA and an absurd 55-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Yet, somehow, Shoemaker currently finds himself owned in just 43.9% of ESPN leagues. What more does he have to do to be worth a pickup?
Admittedly, Shoemaker's recent untouchable performances are a bit unprecedented given his track record. However, everything about what he is doing checks out from a peripheral standpoint. He will look to keep defying the doubters in his one start this week against the Astros.
Houston can be a potent offense, but they have been far from such against right-handers this season. Their .311 wOBA against righties ranks just 19th in the league, and their 24.9% strikeout rate is the third-highest in the league.
With the way Shoemaker has been missing bats (32.7% strikeout rate and 18.5% swinging strike rate in his last six starts), a matchup against the free-swinging Astros is a very enticing proposition for fantasy owners.
