Matt Carpenter may be the most underrated player in baseball, but it's going to be hard to stay under the radar with the numbers he is putting up in June.
Carpenter has been on some kind of tear this month, posting a .485 wOBA, 20.6% walk rate, 13.7% strikeout rate and 46.3% hard-hit rate over 102 plate appearances in June. For the year, Carpenter owns a .419 wOBA with 14 jacks and a career-best 16.3% walk rate.
A lefty, Carpenter has put up a .437 wOBA with an absurd 50.7% hard-hit rate this season against right-handed pitchers, which is what he'll see tonight in Kansas City Royals' starter Chris Young. He isn't pitching as poorly as his 6.54 ERA suggests, but Young's 4.54 SIERA is pretty ugly, too.
St. Louis has the night's second-highest implied total at 4.99 runs, and Carpenter checks in as our top-ranked hitter.
