FanDuel Price: $4,300
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Several of today's top tier outfielders find themselves in great spots, so expect the likes of Carlos Beltran, Mookie Betts, Mike Trout, Gregory Polanco, and Stephen Piscotty to all be more popular options than Ian Desmond given the low implied team total for the Rangers.
Why You Should Use Him:
Desmond has come out of the break swinging a hot bat, as his homer last night was his second in his past three games. He'll look to continue his resurgent season in tonight's righty-lefty matchup against Hector Santiago.
Santiago has pitched well recently but has a 4.27 ERA on the year, which is backed by an even worse 4.61 SIERA. In his career, Santiago has pitched much worse against righties, posting a career 4.88 xFIP against them.
Desmond has hit lefties much better historically, improving his batting numbers across the board, while lowering his strikeout rate and raising his walk rate.
The Rangers are projected for just four runs, so this is far from a safe play. However, Desmond has similar upside to the names mentioned previously and will see lower ownership than all of them, making him an interesting tournament pivot.
