Why He Will Go Overlooked:
If paying up at pitcher, daily fantasy players are much more likely to roster Danny Salazar or Stephen Strasburg than Chris Archer and his 4.42 ERA. His opponent tonight, Danny Duffy, will likely be a popular play as well, which will keep people from wanting to roster Archer.
Why You Should Use Him:
While Archer's 4.42 ERA and 5-14 record aren't pretty, the righty still has nasty stuff and has put it on full display recently, with at least eight strikeouts in four of his past six starts. His 27.4 percent strikeout rate on the year ranks ninth among starting pitchers, while his 12 percent swinging strike rate ranks 10th.
His opponent tonight, the Royals, rank 22nd in wOBA against righties on the year with a 20.1 percent strikeout rate. They've been even worse recently, with the 29th-ranked wOBA and a 21 percent strikeout rate over the past 14 days. Kansas City also has the ninth-highest swinging strike rate on the year.
Vegas likes Archer in this one too, projecting the Royals for just 3.35 runs -- the third-lowest on the slate. Due to his volatility, he is hard to stomach in cash games, but he certainly has the upside to take a chance on in tournaments.
