FanDuel Price: $6,900
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Klay Thompson gets a rep for being an inconsistent daily fantasy option due to his scoring-dependent role in the Golden State Warriors' loaded offense and the team's propensity to blow out opponents. With the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo, C.J. McCollum, and Nicolas Batum on the slate, Thompson isn't likely to see huge ownership at shooting guard.
Why You Should Use Him:
Thompson has topped 35 minutes in each of his past six games, a stretch during which he has averaged 33.2 FanDuel points, thanks to 4.5 made three-pointers per game on 50 percent shooting from behind the arc. His opponent, the Portland Trail Blazers, have allowed the third-highest three-point percentage (38 percent) this season.
Thompson has made his living from behind the arc, specifically running off-ball screens. He's scored 227 points coming off screens this season, which easily leads the NBA. His 191 shot attempts in this situation also leads the NBA, with J.J. Redick coming in a distant second at 132.
The Blazers have not defended off-ball screens well, allowing the sixth-highest effective field goal percentage and the fifth-highest points per possession on said plays. They also have some of the worst individual defenders at the shooting guard position in the NBA. Of 97 qualified shooting guards, Evan Turner, Allen Crabbe, and C.J. McCollum rank 72nd, 85th, and 92nd in defensive real plus-minus.
This game could turn into a blowout, but if Portland keeps it close, there's a good chance Thompson keeps up his red-hot shooting against their weak perimeter defenders. He's an excellent risk-reward option in tournaments.
