FanDuel Price: $5,500
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Jonas Valanciunas never seems to be a popular daily fantasy play due to his inconsistent role for the Toronto Raptors. That isn't likely to change in an unappealing on-paper matchup against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.
Why You Should Use Him:
Rostering Valanciunas in daily fantasy can be very frustrating due to Coach Dwane Casey's use of him, a problem that only got worse with the acquisition of Serge Ibaka. However, the Lithuanian big man has played quite well recently, averaging 34.5 FanDuel points over his past four, which has led to a spike in playing time. Also, Casey won't have the luxury of going small very often against Detroit and the physical Andre Drummond.
A look at how Casey has used Valanciunas in past meetings with Drummond suggests his playing time should be secure tonight. In 10 meetings with Drummond over the past three years, Valanciunas has averaged 29.8 minutes, as opposed to 25.9 minutes in every other game during that time. He's also averaged 33.2 FanDuel points in those games, up from 25.6 in all others. He's averaged over 30 minutes and FanDuel points in three meetings with Detroit this season.
His game-to-game inconsistency make him hard to trust in cash games, but he's a terrific tournament option given the way he has played recently.
