The Best College Basketball Teams With Fewer Than 20 Wins
Which teams with a not-so-impressive final record were the best in the country?

Stanford Cardinal

Stanford's record wasn't too bad at 19-13, but their in-conference record was just 9-9.

Unlike the first two teams on this list, though, Stanford clearly lived through its offense, which ranked in the 82nd percentile this year, which led to a team nERD of 9.29 (44th in the country). Stanford averaged 72.3 points per game, which ranked 56th in the nation. Defensively, the team was a touch below average, ranking in the 46th percentile, and it ranked outside the top 200 in points allowed (67.6), blocks (2.7), and steals (5.5).

The schedule was tough but not impossible for the Cardinal this year, as it ranked 45th –toughest according to our metrics. Still, the Cardinal offense was successful but to no bracket-busting avail.
