The 10 Best College Football Teams to Not Win a National Championship Since 2000
Which of this century's great teams have fallen short of the ultimate goal?

8. 2014 TCU Horned Frogs

nERD: 32.95

One could so easily forget about this TCU team from just a couple years back. After all, in the very first year of the Playoff, they failed to make the top four. That was to no fault of their own, though, as the Horned Frogs finished with the nation's top nERD by more than three points.

Plain and simple, TCU was snubbed by the Selection Committee. And, as a result, they took it personally. They went on to defeat the Mississippi Rebels 42-3 in the Peach Bowl, capping off a 12-1 year with nothing more to show.

What made this team so good was its high-powered offense, driven by Trevone Boykin. On the year, Boykin accounted for 4,661 total yards and 42 touchdowns while earning a passer rating of 145.9. His efficiency led the Horned Frogs to 46.5 points and 533 yards per game -- second and fifth in the nation in 2014.
