The 10 Best College Football Teams to Not Win a National Championship Since 2000
Which of this century's great teams have fallen short of the ultimate goal?

9. 2011 LSU Tigers

nERD: 32.93

The 2011 LSU Tigers were chock full of NFL talent, on both sides of the ball.

On the defensive end, they had Tyrann Mathieu, Eric Reid, Kevin Minter and Morris Claiborne, just to name a few. And on offense, there was Spencer Ware, Alfred Blue, Odell Beckham and Rueben Randle, among others. So, how didn't they win a title?

They got so close to doing just that, but ultimately lost to the only team better than them that year -- none other than SEC foe, Alabama. The Tide ended that year with a nERD of 33.25 -- the only score better than that of Les Miles' Tigers -- not to mention a 21-0 shutout of a stagnant LSU team.

Outside of that, LSU was really some team. They boasted three running backs with at least 500 yards and seven touchdowns, and they held opposing offenses to 3.61 and 2.40 adjusted pass and rush yards per attempt, respectively.
