10 Lessons the 2016 NFL Preseason Has Taught Us So Far
The NFL's regular-season dress rehearsal kicks off Thursday. What have we learned from the preseason already?

The Rookie Quarterbacks Aren't What We Expected

When the Los Angeles Rams traded up to the first overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, they surely expected that quarterback Jared Goff would be a locked-and-loaded starter from the get-go for them. Rather, Goff has completed four of nine passes in preseason action and thrown one interception while looking unaware in training camp.

On the other hand, Dallas Cowboys rookie Dak Prescott -- a fourth-round selection -- has dazzled. Prescott has an 81.48 percent completion rate with 4 passing touchdowns. Perhaps the Cowboys don’t have to find a veteran backup for Tony Romo after all.

These teams ranked 32nd and 30th, respectively, last season in schedule-adjusted Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play. For the Cowboys, who spent very little, it appears to be turning around just fine; for the Rams, who spent a lot, it’s another story.
