Aaron Rodgers suffered last year from the absence of Jordy Nelson and still ended up as the seventh-best fantasy quarterback. With Nelson back in the lineup this week, Rodgers receives a big boost -- according to Rotoviz’s Game Splits App, Rodgers averages 4.16 more fantasy points per game when playing with Nelson.
His job will be made easier this week with a juicy matchup against Jacksonville Jaguars, who gave up the second-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks in 2015. They also ranked 30th in Adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) and only sacked opposing quarterbacks 36 times all season -- 20th in the NFL. Rodgers rarely turns the ball over -- he threw only eight interceptions all last season -- and Jacksonville struggled to pick off opposing quarterbacks last season, ranking 26th in the league with nine interceptions.
This game is expected to be a high-scoring affair -- the 48-point over/under is the fifth-highest of any game this week. Green Bay Packers is the favorite by four points, giving them the fifth-highest implied total this week.
All of that contributes to making Rodgers our highest projected fantasy player for Week 1, and he can be plugged into any lineup with confidence.
