Plugging the Gaps: IDP Waiver Wire for Week 5
Akiem Hicks woke up in Week 4, with two quarterback hits and a sack. Can he do it again?

Mike Mitchell, Free Safety

One of the few matchups that projects to be even more high-flying (and therefore better for a defensive back) is between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets. Steelers safety Mike Mitchell should have a field day with the flailing passing attack of the Jets, as quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has tossed nine interceptions over the past two weeks. His interception rate of 6.5% is the top of the league right now, so the Steelers get them at just the right time.

Seattle Seahawks’ free safety Earl Thomas had a pick and seven total tackles in Week 4 against the Jets and Kansas City Chiefs free safety Daniel Sorensen picked off a pass in Week 3. Mitchell has the best shot to add an interception this week, too, and the game flow should put the Steelers way ahead, forcing the Jets into catchup mode.

Mitchell is available in 96.7% of ESPN IDP leagues, and we project him for 5.22 tackles, 0.18 interceptions, 0.36 passes defended, and a total score of 6.86 fantasy points in Week 5.
