In all my years playing IDP fantasy football, I have never seen a market respond as slowly as it is to Washington Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan. Kerrigan is still rostered at an unbelievably low 1.4 percent of ESPN leagues, and this fact baffles me. In four of his six games played in 2016, Kerrigan has posted seven or more fantasy points, a ridiculous amount for an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense -- normally an inconsistent spot. He’s gotten to the quarterback in four games this season, ranks 30th among outside linebackers in quarterback hit rate, and is 10th-highest in sack rate. He has the kind of consistency with upside that every team wants.
Plus, Kerrigan has a killer matchup this week against the Detroit Lions, who rank the highest in the NFL in stuff rate allowed, and are a solidly enticing 12th-highest in sack rate allowed. The Lions’ running back group is weak at best, and that’s going to be where Kerrigan finds the most success this week: plugging the run. He also has coverage skills, so there’s always a chance he picks a ball off to boot. He’s versatile, he’s impactful, and gosh darnit he’s lovable. Go get Ryan Kerrigan now.
Kerrigan is available in 98.6% of ESPN IDP leagues, and we project him for 3.98 tackles, 0.62 sacks, 0.12 passes defended, and a total score of 6.04 fantasy points in Week 7.
