To put it lightly, Todd Gurley had some hurdles to overcome in his second season as a pro.

We know that Gurley possesses the physical and athletic attributes to be a great NFL running back. That potential is what had him going as a top-three pick in redraft formats ahead of the 2016 season.

Unfortunately, Gurley’s late-season struggles from his rookie campaign carried over into his second year with the Los Angeles Rams. The talent around him, or lack thereof, didn’t help matters, either. Los Angeles fired longtime head coach Jeff Fisher midseason and had rookie quarterback Jared Goff under center despite the top overall pick from the 2016 NFL Draft not appearing to be ready to play.

Gurley couldn’t use his physical gifts to transcend a bad situation, and he ended up letting down a ton of fantasy owners considering his lofty cost.
