Running Back: Melvin Gordon, Los Angeles Chargers

Melvin Gordon, RB, Los Angeles Chargers

20 Rushes, 105 Yards

6 Receptions, 58 Yards, 8 Targets, 2 Touchdowns

Performance Score: 99; NEP: +1.62

Prior to Sunday, the Los Angeles Chargers were struggling to open up holes for running back Melvin Gordon, who was averaging just 42 rushing yards per game heading into their matchup with the winless New York Giants. But against that banged up Giants defense, Gordon was able to amass 105 rushing yards to go alongside 58 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns.

He finished as our top runner of the week, posting a Performance Score of 99 and an outstanding Reception NEP of 8.05. With a long run of just 16 yards, Gordon still had to fight to earn his yards, but his activity in the passing game helped put the exclamation point on an outstanding overall effort.

With 5 total touchdowns through the early part of the season, Gordon is 5th in the NFL in PPR points at the running back position and clearly one of the few bright spots of this struggling Chargers team. Currently 2nd on the team in receptions (19) behind only Keenan Allen, Gordon's all-purpose roll on this offense will continue to keep his fantasy value high, even when the running lanes just aren't there.
