The Detroit Lions' running game bears a striking resemblance to the tooth fairy. People have spoken of it, but there is no real evidence that it actually exists. One of the reasons for this unit's sorry showing over the last few years has been the form -- or lack thereof -- of Ameer Abdullah. The owner of a per-carry average of 3.8 yards for his career, Abdullah managed less than 40 rushing yards per game in 2017.
In both key numberFire metrics -- NEP and Success Rate -- Abdullah was among the league's worst running backs in 2017. Among the 47 backs with at least 100 carries last season, his -0.13 Rushing NEP per carry ranked 41st, while his 30.30% Success Rate checked in 46th. Lions general manager Bob Quinn has already spoken of his desire to add a running back this offseason, so the writing is on the wall for Abdullah.
